Gravity, how are you? 2023 (installation version)
Sand, ceramic shell scultpures, 12 speakers, local netwerk + sound systhem, chairs made from papier maché, Oculus quest 2 headsets, tablet
This poetic virtual reality installation explores how the human body carries and absorbs emotional events.
The work transports the visitor to a beachside city where a body surrenders to gravity. In this setting of slowly changing tides and hand-formed objects - shells and keys -, a voice recites a text. Impressions and imprints of interpersonal communication are woven
together, juxtaposing the viewer's body against the digital body. The gesture of lying down invites the viewer to look at their own vulnerability with a new attention and explore the impact of the other.
The experience is supported by a tactile, interactive 360°soundscape that immerses you in the city by the sea.
In collaboration with sound artist Ewoud Van Eetvelde.
There is a version with an English voice-over and a version with a Dutch voice-over.
