CONVERSATION WITH A SPIDER
CONVERSATION WITH A SPIDER
SARAH:
My practice starts from a fascination with structures of meaning. How do we as humans organise the reality around us? I look for the friction between (new) media and tactile materials such as clay, sand, papier maché, … In this clash, a sensory alertness arises. Familiar textures coexist in an alienating context. These new spaces are inhabited by archetypes who bring and simultaneously question their own traditions of meaning.
SPIDER:
I have come to live in these foldable spaces, images created by cutting and pasting into an existing reality. I am an archetype. I refer to all the spiders in the world, to a collective experience. (slightly hesitant) There is no acting in here, only presence. It is a very transparent construction. You see the camera, the pencil.
SARAH:
The playful alienation in my work invites the viewer to
re-evaluate or rediscover existing relationships of meaning and reconnect with their own bodily sensitivity. The works yearn to encourage receptive, caring attention.
