What does the volcano say? 2023-ongoing

Interactive video performance: 180-projection, mixed media sculpture, webcam, image recognition software, touchdesigner, 20’

What does the volcano say? is an immersive ritual within a participative video instalation that alows a small group of people to gather around a dying volcano and bring up memories from its past life. In this poetical narrative and environment, an organic network of natural, human and technological inteligence is established. The performance tries to spark the viewer’s imagination and strengthen the connection with nature through stories as a form of poetical activism.

Immersed in a 180-projections of a 3D-rendered landscape stands a performer personifying the volcano. In the middle of the space Lies a game board sized landscape that visualy and technologicaly connects to the surrounding landscape. A webcam in the landscape feeds an image recognition software, implemented in Touchdesigner software. Through playing cards participants can trigger videos, activating the volcano’s memory.

The development and first try-outs of this performance were at the invitation
of the Spatial Computinglab (SCL*) at LUCA School of Arts Brussels.

As Jonas & Sarah, they share their interest in a hybrid world where the digital and physical converge.  They interweave clay, wood, textiles, cardboard and other commonly available materials with video and live camera to create playful universes that question systems of signification and stimulate radical imagination.
