Songs for identity I, 2024

Video + sound 2'32”, wood, filler and paint

A fox and a raven find themselves in an abstract green space surrounded by geometric toy blocks. It is not clear whether there’s a build-up or breakdown in progress.

As a duo, the fox and raven are inevitably reminiscent of Jean de la Fontaine's fable where they portray vanity and cunning. This time there is no cheese to steal or lose, but what then?

The masks release their archetypal signification. They sing the words that Greta Thunberg spoke at U.N. climate summit in 2019 letting them revive in a soft, intimate melody. ‘Money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth.

This video installation is a first in a series of works that re-enact fragments of well-known and lesser-known speeches by creating an intimate relationship with the viewer.

Both the fox mask and the raven mask were first made in ceramic and then 3D scanned.
